BioUtah yesterday held its 2024 Utah Life Sciences Summit, sponsored by Mayer Brown. Every year, the Summit is the largest gathering of Utah’s life sciences industry. This year was no exception.

A distinguished line-up of industry leaders and inspiring speakers addressed a packed house. Utah Governor Spencer Cox welcomed attendees to kick off the day-long conference. Brian Miller, MD, assistant professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and former FDA reviewer, shared his perspectives on building an innovation-driven FDA for the future, while Anula Jayasuriya, MD, PhD, co-founder of Kidron Capital Assets, shined a light on the emerging life sciences market for women’s health. University of Utah President, Taylor Randall, PhD, Jim Hotaling, MD, the vice president of research at the University of Utah, and Mark Paul, executive director of the university’s Center for Medical Innovation, discussed the university’s bold vision to partner with and advance Utah’s life sciences ecosystem. The audience also had a chance during a virtual town hall to pose questions directly to Michelle Tarver, MD, the new director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), and Jeff Shuren, MD, who previously led CDRH.

“This year’s Utah Life Sciences Summit tapped into the innovation, spirit, and culture of collaboration that characterizes our community,” said Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO of BioUtah. “Bringing the community together also provided an opportunity for all segments of the industry to network, exchange ideas, and make new connections.”

BioUtah presented its annual awards as part of the programming.

Four targeted tracks – Regulatory and Quality, Women’s Health, Legal and Compliance, and BioUtah, offered sessions on timely and thought-provoking topics. The tracks explored issues around the regulatory landscape, the market for women’s health, economic development, and workforce resources. The Women’s Health Track was a first for the Summit with nine Utah companies showcasing their innovative technologies dedicated to addressing the specific health challenges of women.

The Summit attracted more than 500 registrants and offered more than 30 sessions led by leaders from across the industry, business, and government. A record number of exhibitors filled the hall.

BioUtah is grateful to our title sponsor, Mayer Brown, and our generous sponsors who made the Summit possible.

We hope to see you next year!
